Man Arrested in Williston Airport Bomb Scare

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have a suspect in custody in a bomb scare that prompted the evacuation and temporary closure of an airport in the hub of North Dakota's bustling oil patch.

Williston police say the 53-year-old man was arrested Thursday on charges of terrorizing and physical obstruction of government functions. It was not immediately clear if he had been formally charged.

Detective Amy Nickoloff says Transportation Security Administration employees found a laptop with protruding wires and duct tape in the man's possession, and that the man was uncooperative.

The suspicious device forced the closure and evacuation of Sloulin Field International Airport for more than four hours Thursday afternoon. A bomb squad from Minot eventually determined the device wasn't a bomb.

Nickoloff says the suspect was planning to travel to Texas via Minneapolis.
