LUFKIN, Texas (AP) — Police in Lufkin say an East Texas man is in custody after he was involved in an hour-long chase that involved eight law enforcement agencies, covered three counties and included chain saws being tossed at an officer by the fleeing driver.

Authorities say 27-year-old Richard Kay finally was caught after troopers shot out two of his tires and the radiator of his pickup truck.

The chase where speeds reached 100 mph started late Sunday afternoon in Lufkin when police tried to pull Kay over for speeding. Police tell Lufkin television station KTRE at one point he threw chain saws, believed to have been stolen in a home burglary, at an Angelina County sheriff's deputy.

Kay told authorities he'd taken methamphetamine and prescription drugs. He's now facing multiple charges.
