Mandan Independence Day Parade CANCELLED!

According to a press release from Mandan Progress Organization, the annual Independence Day Parade is cancelled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the Mandan Progress Organization board of directors said they sidelined the parade, because staging and crowd control make safety measures too difficult to enforce.  "The annual Independence parade typically attracts thousands of people four to 5 feet deep," according to Chris at Mandan Progress Organization.  Under Governor Burgum's guidelines concerning large gatherings, there's no way to make this event work.  "The issues we couldn't overcome included safely segregating people during the staging process at Dacotah Centennial Park and ensuring the spacing of the spectators who sit along the route," said incoming Director Dot Frank.

The MPO continues to work with its events committees to make modifications to two other 4th of July events.  The Art in the Park Festival and the Mandan Rodeo.  Those events present a better opportunity to accommodate social distancing and direct crowds.

Once again, the Mandan Progress Organization board of directors announced this morning that the Mandan Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4th has been cancelled.  They do hope to keep the other two events, "The Art in the Park Festival" & "The Mandan Rodeo" on as scheduled.  They are currently working on a plan for those two events.
