We heard a new restaurant in Mandan was in the works, back in November that some new business owners ( Michelle and Steve Kauffman, Steven Vetter and Derrek and Liz Sanda ) had eye-balled the old Rock Point and Captain Freddy's spot on the Missouri River. Their plan was to turn their new digs into a family-style place - perfect for folks to come out and eat and take in the cool river breeze. They set their sights on opening in the early summer of this crazy year. Watching their goal turn into reality, The Paddle Trap was built out of hard work and love. Unfortunately, the coronavirus came upon the scene in March - which of course altered all of our lives, and also presented some new problems for The Paddle Trap.

The beautiful new place is huge, dining inside and out of course, and due to the pandemic, the owners decided to serve customers outside on the deck, to help keep diners and the staff safe. Curbside or boat side is available, and so is The Paddle Trap's amazing homemade clam chowder. The feel of this place is really something special, sitting out on the deck, with a panoramic view that's hard to beat, it's quite easy to find yourself instantly relaxed. Although it may be a tad difficult to find this place, it nestles into a charming river edge community. The gentleman I spoke to said they have been open for about four weeks, the owners themselves have been surprised by the response and the steady business. A modest menu to choose from - brunch, lunch and dinner and, a kids menu. You deserve to treat yourself a visit to The Paddle Trap. For more on this story click here
