According to a press release by the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation, the 'First Lady of Medora' passed away on Wednesday, March 16th just shy of her 91st birthday.

Many knew Sheila and her husband, Harold, for rebuilding the historic town of Medora. The Schafers wanted to provide appropriate entertainment for the whole family. That is how the Medora Musical was born.

The Medora Musical opened in 1965, just a few days after Sheila and Harold returned from their honeymoon. The Musical celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 and Sheila was sure to be at as many performances as possible!

Eventually, the Schafers donated the sum of their Medora holdings in order to create the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. The Foundation remembers Sheila as:

Truly the heart and soul of Medora for many, many years and today we lost one of the world's most wonderful, generous, and loving people.

Thanks to Sheila and Harold, who passed in 2001, Medora is a historic town North Dakota is proud to show off. May her legacy live on and she rest in peace.
