It's way too hot this weekend to get into a heated debate about this, but I'll tell you what's going on, and you can argue among yourselves while I recline in front of the A/C.

The AP is reporting that on Friday the Minneapolis City Council approved a proposal to change the city charter in such a way that it would allow the dismantling of the police department.  Now, before Twin City donut shops start getting their long-johns in a bunch, there's many stages to go through before something can be implemented. But the police line has been crossed.

Here's an excerpt from Fox TV of what is being proposed:

The amendment proposes the city replace the police department with a Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention, “which will have responsibility for public safety services prioritizing a holistic, public health-oriented approach,

In a 12-0 vote the Minneapolis City Council advanced a proposal that now has to go through the usual obstacle course of bureaucratic bull on it's way to potentially making the November ballot.

The Star Tribune article is filled with opinions flying in from all sides.  It goes too far! It doesn't go far enough! It doesn't have any teeth!  It has too much teeth!  Kirk Cousins is going to have to play better to earn that big paycheck!  Wait a minute, who's arguing against that?

Look, in North Dakota, the only white folks that break a sweat when the police "light them up" are ones that have been drinking too much or have a suspended license. (maybe for drinking too much)

I can't speak to a population that feels they have no recourse to the law. So I'm sitting this one out for now- just too darn hot.
