Minot Native Retires From Major League Baseball

According to KFYR-TV, Gary Cederstrom is retiring from Major League Baseball (MLB) after 31 years of umpiring. He officiated more then 3,500 games and was in four World Series. The latest was the 2019 World Series between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros.

Gary Cederstrom was born in Bismarck, ND but grew up in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1973. He has a B.S. in education from Minot State College. He is 64 years old and was born on October 4, 1955.

He returns to North Dakota to hunt and fish and is a big North Dakota State Bison fan. Gary Cederstrom was in Minot in 2016 to serve as the Grant Marshal of the North Dakota State Parade.

He was in four World Series the first being in 2005 between the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros. His second in 2011 between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. His third in 2015 between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. And lastly in 2019 between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros where Gary Cederstrom served as crew chief.
