Today was Morton County Ag Day at Open Road Honda in Mandan. The day had the non stop roll of big yellow school buses from various portions of the area dropping off kids that were about to experience the many blessings that we all take for granted!

This area has very fertile and rich soil and today at the Ag Day, the youngsters got hands on experiences in so many areas including petting cows, chickens, geese, ducks and pigs. They were able to witness the shaving of sheep and even got to milk a cow. It was a fake cow, that produced water, but still, the children got the idea.

Even as an adult, I learned with the students as various booths were set up that gave us an idea of how much of the grains that are grown in the area are used. An example of the products included wheat thins, oat meal, soy milk and sunflower seeds. Some of the booth space was occupied by groups like the North Dakota Grain Growers Association, Farm Bureau of Morton Country, Mandan FFA, North Dakota Beef Association and the Northern Great Plains Researchers.

Still, it was hard to resist petting the baby calf and young piglets!
