It is not always easy to find an affordable ride in North Dakota. Many people may choose to drive home after a night of drinking. But the North Dakota Department of Transportation is working towards a solution for impaired driving in our state.

ND Sober Ride Program was implemented on March 2, 2021.

Just before St. Patrick's Day 2021, the North Dakota Department of Transportation unveiled a sober ride program. The public has spoken - North Dakotans are loving it! As part of the "Stay Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, ND Sober Ride offered people a $10 vouchers for using the service. During the month of March, 800 ride vouchers were used with ND Sober Ride.

During the month of March, 800 ND Safe Ride vouchers were claimed. Now, the program needs more sponsors.

Bismarck Tribune reports that, the ND Sober Ride program ran from March 2 to March 31. In that time, 800 ride vouchers were claimed. ND Sober Ride was created to try to cut down on impaired driving. Bismarck Tribune reports that there really is a need for this type of program in North Dakota. Now, they are looking for more sponsors to fund the effort. Learn more about ND Sober Ride here.

I am excited for a sober ride program in North Dakota. When I lived in Denver, I loved the public transportation options! Denver has an incredible. Not only is it affordable, but it is also free during big events - like a Bronco's Super Bowl Championship celebration! There were also times that cabs were free and paid for by law firms for events like New Year's Eve.

We are not quite there with North Dakota public transportation, but ND Sober Ride is a start!
