GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota National Guard soldiers who spent nearly a year helping protect the air space in the Washington, D.C., area have been honored for their service.

The Guard held a ceremony in Grand Forks on Sunday to formally honor the members of the 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. More than 200 soldiers with the unit returned home in May from the homeland security mission.

It was the 10th deployment for the battalion, making the 188th the most-deployed North Dakota Guard unit during the global war on terror. Portions of the battalion previously served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
