BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow concealed-carry permit holders to pack guns at schools, if officials allow it.

The House Education Committee is slated to take testimony on the legislation Tuesday.

The proposal would require someone who wants to carry a gun in school to undergo training with local law enforcement.

A similar measure failed two years ago in the Legislature.

Supporters of the gun-rights proposal have said the aim is create an efficient and cost-effective way to protect people at school, and just passing the law also would serve as a deterrent.
