Sober ride discount program is now available to North Dakotans through Lyft.

One of the best parts about living in a big city was that it was so easy to travel without a car. When I lived in Denver, transportation was readily available in many forms - planes, trains, and automobiles - at any point during the day. The best part about having constant access to readily-available transportation options? The free and discounted ride programs during events and holidays.

This week, the Bismarck Tribune reported that state officials have unveiled a new program designed to cut down on impaired driving. According to the Bismarck Tribune, The AAA Auto Club has given $10,000 to ND Drive Sober so people can get discounts on their Lyft rides. Get the full story here.

How can you get a sober ride discount?

Vision Zero North Dakota's website states that, now through March 31, between 5:00 PM and 2:00 AM, people can use a code on Lyft to get a $10 ride discount. Vision Zero ND is also looking to expand this type of program to small towns by working with taxis and other transportation services. You can find the codes on Vision Zero ND's website.

I think a sober ride program is a step in the right direction for North Dakota public transportation options. It would be wonderful if we can eventually get to a point where more transportation options were available at all times of the day!
