North Dakota Officials Doubt They Will Find Oil Waste Dumper

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A state health official says it's doubtful that people responsible for illegally dumped oil field waste in northwestern North Dakota will be found.

North Dakota Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt says officials are attempting to get approval to use state funds to clean up the site. But that may take at least two more weeks.

Officials earlier this month reported the illegal dumping of radioactive oil filter socks in an abandoned building in Noonan.

Authorities have no leads on who may have left the filters in the building. They say the building's owner would have to pay for the cleanup but he was charged with felony larceny in an unrelated incident and has yet to be located.
