Obesity is becoming a huge issue for North Dakota as the obesity rate has increased at a steady pace since 1990.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, the obesity rate ranked 9th highest in the country at 32.2 percent last year. North Dakota is among 22 states that have experienced stable obesity levels. Prevention is key and experts say it starts with our children. If children enter school without becoming obese then they have a much better chance of avoiding obesity as an adult.

Obesity is also costly adding billions of dollars to the health care industry. Many schools have also made cuts in physical education programs which hinders the fight against obesity in North Dakota.

With North Dakota making the top 10 list for obesity rate and on the increase, this is certainly a health issue to take note of.
