BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — It's a chilly start to the holiday shopping season in North Dakota.

Temperatures were in the low teens, single digits and in the west below zero as shoppers headed out to the stores on Black Friday to land some deals.

The day after Thanksgiving is generally considered the kickoff to the holiday shopping season. It's typically the biggest shopping day of the year — the National Retail Federation expects nearly 100 million people to shop.

Some stores opened Thursday night. The Sears store in Bismarck was one where shoppers lined up after their holiday meal. Store manager Chris Ott told KXMB-TV that shoppers were mainly after tools, and washers and dryers.
