North Dakota’s Most Unique Food Item Is….

This could surprise you! Fastcodesign.com published a list of each states most unique food item. Let's be clear. This is NOT the favorite food items in each state. This is the most unique or weirdest food item for each state in the union.

Before we get to NoDak's most unique or weirdest food, which I think you'll be VERY surprised when you hear about this item. Let's first look at the methodology. According to Fastcodesign.com-

"  Co.Design teamed up with a food design firm to mine its database of 88,000 menus and 59 million menu items and build this map of the each state  most unique items.  It’s the food that most distinguishes them from the rest of the pack.

I have lived in many great states in the country. I can speak from experience that some of the items listed, I would agree with. Louisiana's most unique item is crawfish. ( In Louisiana, it's spelled CRAW and pronounced CRAW. Other portions of the world may have CRAYFISH, in Louisiana, they have CRAWFISH) In Minnesota, it's walleye. Texas, it's hot peppers and Arkansas it's ranch dressing. I would agree with all of these items.

Here in North Dakota, according to Co.Design.com, the most unique food item is sugar.

To further explain how the researchers came up with this -

" Source Food Genius Methodology Food Genius tracks term appearance on unique menus. So even if "bacon" appears eight times on Waffle House's menu, and there are 20 Waffle House locations in Georgia, Food Genius only increases the count for "bacon" in Georgia by one. The range of Food Genius's coverage spans from Washington D.C., where the company tracks an estimated 85% of restaurants, to Alaska, from which almost all of the data comes from chain restaurants.

I don't know how to feel about this item for North Dakota. I'm speechless, I got nothing! Sugar? Really?
