North Dakota’s “Road Construction Season” Declared a Success

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State and oil patch officials say this year's road construction season has been successful so far, thanks to favorable weather.

As of Oct. 15, 66 percent of more than $596 million in projects bid out this year have been completed. That compares with 53 percent of projects completed at the same time last year and 61 percent the year before.

State Department of Transportation Operations Director Wade Swenson tells The Bismarck Tribune few projects won't be completed. He says the DOT typically gets close to 90 percent of the work done each year.

Among the major projects completed this year are a 2-mile stretch of state Highway 23 through New Town, a 3-mile stretch of state Highway 40 north of Tioga and a 13-mile truck bypass around Williston.
