April is National Stress Awareness Month. Despite stress levels being on the rise, North Dakota was recently ranked as the 2nd least stressed state in the country.

Our friends at WalletHub recently compared the 50 states and Washington, D.C., using several key metrics, such as getting adequate sleep, median credit score, housing affordability, and divorce rate. North Dakota ranked as the 49th (50 of 51 with D.C) most stressed state in the country, or 2nd least stressed, as previously mentioned. Minnesota took the title of the least stressed state in the U.S.

Stress Levels in North Dakota (1=Most Stressed, 25=Avg.):

  • 47th – Share of Adults Getting Adequate Sleep
  • 35th – % of Adults in Fair/Poor Health
  • 49th – Median Credit Score
  • 49th – Housing Affordability
  • 44th – % of Population Living Below Poverty Line
  • 50th – Divorce Rate
  • 35th – Crime Rate per Capita
  • 34th – Psychologists per Capita

The top three most stressed states in the country from first to third are Louisiana, New Mexico, and West Virginia.

For what it's worth, the ranking makes perfect sense to me. Of the six states I've lived in, North Dakota is easily the most laid-back area I've resided in. So keep chillin' (not a pun), North Dakota!
