Roulette County Deputy Laid To Rest

BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty is being remembered as a cheerful person who could light up a room.

Twenty-nine-year-old Colt Allery died last week after he and three other Rolette County deputies exchanged gunfire with a suspect following a vehicle chase. The suspect also was killed.

Allery's funeral service was held Tuesday in Belcourt, where he was honored by law enforcement officers from around the country as well as fellow Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa tribal members.

Rolette County Sheriff Gerald Medrud said Allery had a warm heart and worked hard at his job. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum called Allery "a true warrior."

Allery is the 57th law enforcement officer in North Dakota to be killed on the job.
