Schwan’s Buick GMC Unfurls Giant American Flag

Schwan's Buick GMC celebrated Flag Day in patriotic fashion, Friday, as it unfurled a giant American flag in its parking lot. Members of the 4th Degree Mandan Knights of Columbus proudly helped raise the 85-pound, 15-by-30 foot flag up the 80-foot pole in Schwan's parking lot.

"Everything's so overwhelming. I'm so happy," Steve Schwan said after the flag raising. "What a gorgeous day, and the people who came out — thanks again for everybody that came out."

The Knights of Columbus also presented Schwan with a plaque declaring him the "Patriot of the Month", an award they give out to local businesses each month to honor those who have demonstrated patriotic spirit.

"I was not expecting that," Schwan said. "It's another thing we can display and keep forever."
