Fresh on the heels of President Obama's historic visit, the Rolling Stones traveled to Cuba for a free Good Friday concert in Havana.

The British Daily Mail reports that the appearance stirred up a bit of controversy as it emerged that Pope Francis had contacted the band and asked them not to perform on Good Friday.

A tour insider said Mick Jagger informed the Vatican that while respectful of the pontiff's concerns, the band was bound by contract, and intended to honor their commitment.

"Hello Havana! Good evening to my Cuban people," Mick Jagger roared to the crowd in perfect Spanish.

The band has enjoyed a dedicated following on the island for decades despite censorship by the communist state.
