Teddy Roosevelt Long Island Home Re-Opening

OYSTER BAY, N.Y. (AP) — Sagamore Hill, the "Summer White House," during Theodore Roosevelt's presidency, is set to reopen.

The 28-room mansion in Oyster Bay has undergone an extensive four-year, $10 million renovation by the National Park Service.

Every one of the 12,000 items owned by the 26th president, including an estimated 10,000 books and dozens of "trophies" from his hunting expeditions, were removed. They were all painstakingly cleaned, repaired and replaced exactly where he left them.

The official reopening is scheduled for July 12. Dignitaries including Interior Secretary Sally Jewell are expected to attend. Large crowds are expected all summer and online reservations are currently being accepted.

Tour groups are limited to about 15-18 people every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to limit the wear and tear.
