Police responded to a welfare check Saturday morning in Williston which led to a standoff with officers according to KFYR-TV.

Williston Police, McKenzie Sheriff, and SWAT teams handle the call Saturday morning after an argument between a couple resulted in a welfare check on the man.

At first, police thought they were responding to a hostage call but officials quickly made it clear, this was not any type of hostage call. Police wanted to make sure the husband was safe.

Police blocked off the area of the 3300 block of 11th Street-West.

The situations started off tense as the police arrived on the scene and could not make contact with either the husband or wife. After some time, police made contact with the wife.  Adding to the tension was a report of the man having a gun.

Neighbors and residents in apartments near the standoff were asked to stay safe inside their homes until the situation was resolved.

Charges are pending and the situation came to a peaceful ending around 5 p.m. Saturday.
