Every time I read about rape, it is gut-wrenching. How someone can violate another person in such a vicious manner is beyond my comprehension. And it happens even in North Dakota.

According to KFYR-TV, two Bismarck men - Michaelson Plaisimond and Arnold Rennie - were each "found guilty of gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor in July." The report says that Plaisimond and Rennie gave a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old methamphetamine and marijuana before raping the girls at a hotel in Bismarck. Get the full story from KFYR-TV here.

According to the story, 37-year-old Plaisimond will spend 15 and 24-year-old Rennie will serve 20 years in prison. So, when they are released, they will be 52 and 44-years-old, respectively. Though it is reported that the men do face deportation after their sentences, they will both be fairly young when they are released from prison. Which means that they will be out and able to offend again.

Now, as far as sentences for sex crimes go, 15 and 20 years are pretty long sentences in North Dakota. - who knows if they will even serve the entire sentences OR get deported? But should sex offenders have longer sentences? It is not like people who commit sexual crimes can magically be changed by a prison sentence.

I do not have kids, but the thought of predators seeking children and teenagers would haunt my dreams if I did have them. And I can't imagine how traumatized someone might be after being violated in such a way. I hope the girls who were harmed by Plaisimond and Rennie are able to heal from their physical and emotional traumas.
