GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota has received 16 proposals to design a logo for the school's new Fighting Hawks nickname.

UND spokesman Peter Johnson says a committee is scheduled to start reviewing the proposals on Friday. The group eventually will send a recommendation to interim UND President Ed Schafer for approval.

The Grand Forks school adopted the predatory bird mascot last November to replace the Fighting Sioux nickname that had been deemed offensive by the NCAA and retired.
