Well, here we go again.

The 51st Annual United Tribes Technical College International Powwow has been cancelled due to COVID-19. This was posted earlier today on the UUTC Facebook page

In an effort to prevent spreading Covid-19, UTTC Week Events Committees have decided to cancel. We hope everyone stays healthy and we will see you next year!

As much as I would like to scream, curse, and cuss about another major cancellation, I'm going to accept the cold hard fact that these decisions come through much thoughtful consideration.

September 8-13 was considered as "UTTC Week Events" for 2020. While the International Powwow is the center of this week long gathering, it is only part of a larger cultural phenomenon.  The Powwow draws over 10,000 participants and spectators from all around the world.  But that's just 3 days of this week long event.  There's the Tribal Leaders Summit, the Legends Softball Tournament, the Thunderbird Run, youth basketball tournament and other related events.

The Powwow is such a rare and unique gathering.  I always look forward to introducing it to people who may have just moved to Bismarck/Mandan.  After 50 years of having access to this annual event, we around here may forget how special it truly is.

It also is an economic engine, not just for UTTC- but for all of Bismarck/Mandan.  It is estimated to generate over 4 million dollars annually for the region. So these decisions don't come lightly.

So as we say so-long to another beloved annual event- the question must be asked:

What about the City Wide Rummage Sale?!?

Don't tell me...probably don't want to know.
