WINTER STORM WARNING for Area Counties Including Burleigh
The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for select counties in North Dakota.
This will be the first major storm system of the season. The counties under the gun of the WINTER STORM WARNING are Burleigh, Mercer, Oliver, McLean, Morton, Kidder, and logan.
Neighboring counties outside of this area have a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.
The WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect until 8 pm tonight. This storm will move through the area today and will impact travel especially into the afternoon and evening hours. This storm has the potential to dump up to 8 inches of snow in some areas. The snowfall prediction is from 5-8 inches.
Wind chill values will dip as the winds will gust up to 40 mph which will also impact travel with blowing and drifting snow.
Residents and travelers in South Central, Western and Southeast North Dakota should stay weather aware and check travel conditions at 511 before hitting the road. Make sure you have an updated winter survival kit in your vehicle before you attempt to travel.
Snowfall will begin from the west and moving east by mid-morning into the evening hours. Heavy bands of snow will move through the area at various times throughout the morning into the afternoon.
