The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Bismarck and Mandan, as well as all of Burleigh and Morton counties and the counties of Emmons, Kidder, Oliver, Slope and Stark. 

As of Saturday morning, the warning is said to be in effect from late Saturday, May 9 through the morning of Monday, May 11.

The southwestern region of North Dakota will most likely get the blunt of the storm. It is predicted that the area will receive heavy wet snow with up to a foot of accumulation from Bowman and New England to Elgin and Fort Yates.

The areas in and between Amidon and Dickinson to Bismarck, Linton and Steele could likely receive upwards of 6 inches of snow.

In addition to heavy snow, the region is forecasted to be hit by strong northeast winds up to 35 MPH on Sunday morning.

A winter storm watch is defined by the National Weather Service as weather that has the "potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel." It is advised that those in these areas keep an eye on forecast updates throughout the weekend.
