Very cold temperatures are expected for North Dakota today through Wednesday. The north central region can expect wind chill values as low as minus 45. This is a very dangerous weather system with very cold Arctic air settling in the area.
Don't let the above normal temperatures fool you as the National Weather Service in Bismarck is predicting snow for the first weekend of the New Year, accompanied with another blast of Arctic air.
Very cold air will settle in the region making the next few days the coldest of the season. The National Weather Service issued a WIND CHILL ADVISORY, Sunday night (12/28) through Tuesday.
Another clipper system will move through the area tonight, with it bringing a mix of rain and snow. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect from 10 AM Sunday through 12 AM Monday.
It's impossible to predict exactly when the most frigid day of the year will be, but based on historical data, we have a good idea of when North Dakotans should plan on using one of those coveted sick days to stay in bed.
