FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty last year to mistreating animals in the deaths of more than 100 horses in Burleigh and Morton counties has been arrested twice in the past month for allegedly violating probation.

Sixty-four-year-old William Kiefer earlier was accused of buying a horse from a Wyoming woman. On Monday he was arrested for allegedly having a horse and mule in the backyard of his Fargo home.

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman tells KXMB-TV Kiefer allegedly used a false name to take part in a trail ride south of Towner on Sunday, and took home the mule he rode.

Kiefer is being held without bond. A probation revocation hearing is set for Sept. 19.

Kiefer's attorney did not immediately respond to an Associated Press request for comment.
